2023年5月20日（土）小・中・高校生を対象とした「国立代々木競技場ジュニア見学会」を開催しました。
大変多くのご応募をいただき誠にありがとうございました。応募多数のため抽選となりましたのでまた次回の見学会を開催予定です。
このたびは約180名のお子さんと保護者の方にご参加いただきました。
見学会は、第2体育館にて関東学生卓球リーグ戦を観戦しながら、温かい光のさす第2体育館内を見学し、大きな第1体育館の外周をまわりながら豊川斎赫先生による「吊り屋根の構造授業」が行われました。参加されたみなさんには、色分けされたメインケーブルやサブケーブルをひぱっていただき、どのようにして柱を使わずに広い空間ができたのかを学んでいただきました。

みんなできょうぎ場のやねをロープで作ったとき、ずっとピンと引っぱらないといけなかったので、ひっぱり合いっこをして作っているやねなんだなということがわかりました。中に入ると、うずまきの形で学校の体育かんとぜんぜんちがって、きれいでした。先生から、ここに世界中からいろんな人があつまって、みんなで楽しいことをしているというお話を聞いて、すごいなぁ、うれしいなぁと思いました。ほかにもすごいたてものがあるのかもしれないなと思いました。ありがとうございました。

When we worked together to create the roof of the playhouse using chains and had to keep pulling them tight, I realized that it was like building it through a tug-of-war.
Inside, the shape was completely different from our school gymnasium, with beautiful spirals.
When the teacher told us that people from all over the world come here and have fun together, I thought, “Wow, that’s amazing! How wonderful!”
It made me think that there might be other incredible buildings out there.

私は十数年前にメキシコで体育館を真似した建物を見たことがあり、よくわからないけど建築家が作ってみたいすごい建築なんだろうなとずっと思っていたので、今回の見学会に参加できて本当に嬉しかったです。豊川先生、千葉大の皆さん、応援しています。

私は建物を見るときに、外装や内装ばかり気にしていましたが、地震の耐久性や逃げ道や、敷地内にどう綺麗に収めるかなどたくさんのことを考えて作られていると体感できました。将来は建築士になって、これまでにない空間を作りたいと思います。昨日は、貴重な経験をさせていただき誠にありがとうございました。

Thank you very much for yesterday. I would like to share my daughters’ impressions with you.
Several years ago, I saw a building in Mexico that was designed to resemble a gymnasium, and although I didn’t fully understand it, I always thought it must be an incredible architectural creation that the architect wanted to build. So, I was really thrilled to be able to participate in this tour.

When I used to look at buildings, I would only pay attention to the exterior and interior design. However, during the tour, I was able to experience firsthand that a lot of thought goes into creating buildings, such as their earthquake resistance, escape routes, and how to neatly fit them within the site.
In the future, I aspire to become an architect and create unique spaces that have never been seen before.Thank you very much for allowing me to have this valuable experience yesterday.

豊川先生、昨日はジュニア見学会に参加させていただきありがとうございました。難しい、建物の仕組みをわかりやすく説明していただき、有意義な時間になりました。たまたま夫が休みだったため夫と私、娘2人の４人で参加させていただきました。小学３年と年長の娘にはまだ少し理解しづらい部分もあったようですが、楽しめたようです。先生の子供に接する姿勢、子供に理解してもらおうとする姿勢が素晴らしいなと思いました。昨晩、先生の研究室のHPを拝見いたしました。難しそうなことをやられている研究室だな、という印象ですが、先生のお人柄が伝わってまいります。慕われていらっしゃるんだろうな、と感じました。上の娘が作ることが大好きで、以前、「家を作る人になりたい」と言っていたことがあり、建築家になりたいのかな、と思ったことがあります。もし、そうであれば、先生の研究室に入れるよう、頑張ってほしいな、と思いました。昨日の写真と、建築ではないのですが、GWに工作で段ボールの家を作りましたので、一緒にメールに添付させていただきます。昨日はありがとうございました。

Dear Dr. Toyokawa,
Thank you very much for giving us a chance to participate in the Junior Tour yesterday. The explanations provided made it easier to understand the complexities of building structures, and it was truly a meaningful experience. By chance, my husband had the day off, so the four of us, including our two daughters, were able to attend. While there were some parts that were still a bit difficult for our third grader and preschool daughters to grasp, they seemed to enjoy it nonetheless.
I was impressed by the way the teacher interacted with the children and made an effort to ensure their understanding.
Last night, I had the opportunity to visit the website of your research lab. It gave me the impression that your research involves complex subjects, but I could also sense your wonderful personality. It seems that you are highly respected and admired.
Our older daughter loves to create things, and she once expressed a desire to become someone who builds houses. I couldn’t help but wonder if she might want to become an architect. If that’s the case, I hope she can work hard to gain admission to your research lab one day.
I will attach some photos yesterday, including one of the cardboard house we made during the Golden Week holidays. While it’s not architecture-related, I thought you might like to see it.

昨年、娘が猛烈に一級建築士に憧れ、このような貴重な機会がありましたので申し込みをさせていただいた次第です。
家はよく目にしておりますが、スケールの大きい壮大な建築物には触れる事が少なく楽しかったようです。帰宅後に事前に借りていた丹下健三氏の本を見ておりましたが、実際に見に行くと卓上では感じられない圧倒的なパワーに力をもらったように思います。また、親しみやすい先生のお人柄で子ども達もよく話を聞いておりました。
つり屋根方式の模型などご準備いただき、子どもに伝わりやすかったと感じます。この度は貴重な機会をいただきありがとうございました。

わたしは、国立よよ木きょうぎじょうに行きました。わたしは、けんちくにきょうみがあります。りゆうは、家を作る本を見て、かっこいいなと思ったからです。けんちくの本でも見たこともない体いくかんは見たことがありませんでした。うねうねまがっていて、かっこよかったです。

Last year, my daughter developed a strong admiration to become a first-class architect, which led me to apply for this valuable opportunity. While we often encounter houses in our daily lives, it is rare for us to experience grand-scale and magnificent architectural structures, so she thoroughly enjoyed the tour. After returning home, we were looking through a book by Kenzo Tange that we had borrowed in advance. However, actually seeing the buildings in person provided a tremendous power and inspiration that cannot be felt through pictures alone. Additionally, the friendly and approachable nature of the teacher made it easy for the children to listen attentively. The preparation, such as providing a model of a hanging roof structure, was a good hit for children. I am truly grateful for this valuable opportunity.

I went to the National Gymnasium today. I think architecture is cool. The reason is that I saw a book about building houses and thought it was amazing.
I had never seen a gymnasium with such a strange shape before, like the one I saw in the book. It was curly and warpy, and it was very cool.

お世話になります。先日はジュニア見学会に参加させて頂き、ありがとうございました。土地の歴史から、体育館の構造の体験、競技場の管理の状況、世界遺産の登録まで、代々木競技場を取り巻く多岐にわたるお話で、保護者としてもとても興味深いお話を伺うことができました。ありがとうございました。以下、参加した娘からの感想です。

吊り屋根構造ということで、見学会に参加する前はどうやって建っているのか、倒れないのかと不思議に思っていましたが、みんなで代々木第一体育館になってみて、力や重さのバランスが取れていてしっかり建っているといことが体感できました。私が小学生の頃から参加しているガールスカウト活動では、3本の支柱とロープを使ってテントを建てます。支柱を支えるロープの杭を打ち込む場所は、支柱の等倍の距離と習いますが、このようにどこに力を置くかということは、建築の基本なのだなと感じました。豊川先生のお話はとても面白く工学部にもとても興味を持ちました。ありがとうございました。帰宅した後、代々木第一体育館でいつもコンサートを行っていた、母が大ファンのV６のDVDのジャケットを母から見せてもらいました。代々木第一体育館のデザインのもので、この時のコンサートはコロナ禍で無観客で行われたため、代々木第一体育館の美しい構造の映像をたくさん使った配信コンサートだったそうです。豊川先生が「たくさんの人に愛されている建築」だと仰っていましたが、本当にそうだなと感じました。私のベストショットは、今回自分で撮った代々木第一体育館と母が持っているV６のDVDジャケットの写真です。ありがとうございました。

I would like to express my gratitude for allowing us to participate in the Junior Tour the other day. From the history of the land to experiencing the structure of the gymnasium, learning about the management of the stadium, and even discussing its possibility to become a World Heritage site, the range of topics surrounding the Yoyogi National Gymnasium was truly fascinating to me as a parent. Thank you very much for sharing such engaging stories. Below, I would like to share the impressions from my daughter who participated in the tour:


R.S. (Third grade, Middle school)
As I heard about the suspended roof structure before participating in the tour, I was curious about how it was built and how it didn’t collapse. However, when we all gathered at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium, I could feel that it was firmly built with a balanced distribution of force and weight.
In the Girl Scout activities that I have been participating in since elementary school, we build tents using three poles and ropes. I learned that the distance between the stakes that support the poles should be the same as the length of the pole. Understanding where to place the force is essential in architecture, and I realized that it is a fundamental concept. Professor Toyokawa’s explanations were very interesting, and it sparked my interest in the engineering field. Thank you very much.
After returning home, my mother showed me the DVD jacket of V6, who happens to be a big fan, a group that always held concerts at Yoyogi National Gymnasium. The jacket featured the design of the Gymnasium, and during that concert, which took place without an audience due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they used a lot of footage showcasing the beautiful structure of the Gymnasium for the online streaming concert. Looking at this DVD jacket, I thought what Professor Toyokawa mentioned in the tour that it is a building “loved by many people.” My favorite shot is the collage of the photo I took of the Gymnasium and the V6 DVD jacket of my mother’s. Once again, thank you for everything.

代々木体育館で学んだことは、2つあります。一つ目は、建物を支える工夫がたくさんしてあるところです。代々木体育館は60年経つのに壊れません。だとしてもけっして頑丈ではなく、むしろ固定はされてません。ケーブルなどが地震などの力を吸収や分散させることで、この60年間一度も壊れなかったのです。柱はもちろんのこと屋根なども、風で飛ばされたり地震でたおれないように工夫してありました。二つ目は第2体育館はぐうぜんできた形ということです。室内を見て上から光がさしこんでいることがわかりました。その光がさしているところは、丸くはなく、ふしぎな形でした。もけいがこわされてできた形がいまの第2体育館なのです。最後に、世界遺産を目指して、私たちができることを考えてみました。まず、一番はじめに、代々木体育館のよいところやすごいところを調べることです。それを調べるためには、私たちがいったような見学会に積極的に参加をするとよいと思います。そして良いところなどを見つけられたら、お友達に教えてあげたいです。そして、代々木体育館が世界遺産を目指していることだけでも身近な人に教えていきたいと思います。

I learned two things from the Yoyogi National Gymnasium tour.
The first is the various things are thought out in advance to support the building. Despite being 60 years old, the Yoyogi National Gymnasium remains intact. It is not sturdy in the traditional sense, as it is not fixed rigidly. Instead, cables and other elements are relaxed and releases forces like earthquakes, which is why it has remained standing for 60 years. Not only the pillars but also the roof and other components are designed to withstand strong winds and earthquakes.
The second thing I learned is that the design of the Yoyogi Second Gymnasium happened serendipitously. I noticed that light was shining into the interior from above, but the areas where the light reached were not circular; they have unique shapes. The Yoyogi Second Gymnasium was formed from the remains of a destroyed building, and its current form reflects that.
Lastly, I considered what we can do to contribute to Yoyogi Gymnasium’s promotion for UNESCO World Heritage status. First and foremost, it is important to research and explore the remarkable aspects of Yoyogi Gymnasiums. Participating actively in tours, just like the one we attended, would be good for conducting such research. Once we discover the positive aspects, it would be great to share them with our friends. Additionally, I would like to spread awareness among people close to me about Yoyogi Gymnasium’s aspiration to become a World Heritage site.

今回、参加して代々木競技場のことについて詳しく知ることができました。私は隈研吾さんが好きで、国立競技場の見学にも行きました。国立競技場は隈さんらしくてよかったのですが代々木体育館は様々な工夫と努力の結晶だとわかり見る目が変わりました。一番びっくりしたところは第二体育館が3000人入るということです。そんなに大きな建物ではないのに、中に入ってみると中央の舞台となる所が思っていたよりも広くて美しいと感じました。実際に代々木競技場を作ってみての感想は、「こんなに不安定な建物をよく作ったな！」です。柱を2本しか建てないで、よくバランスをとっているなと思いました。私は、一回だけ第一体育館に入ったことがあります。入ったときまだ幼稚園生で、建築的な価値はわからなかったのですが中が広くてらせんがとても美しかったということは覚えています。ぜひ世界遺産に登録して多くの人に知ってもらいたいです。

Through this visit, I was able to learn more about the Yoyogi National Gymnasium. I am a fan of Kengo Kuma, and I have also visited the National Stadium, which was impressive in his signature style. However, the Yoyogi National Gymnasium made me realize that it is the pinnacle of various ingenious ideas and efforts, and it changed my perspective.
The most surprising aspect for me was that the Yoyogi Second Gymnasium can accommodate 3,000 people. It is not a very large building, but when you step inside, you realize that the central stage area is much more spacious and beautiful than you would expect. My impression after seeing the actual construction of the Gymnasium is, “They managed to create such an unstable-looking structure!” It amazed me how they balanced everything with only two pillars.
I have been inside the Yoyogi First Gymnasium once, when I was still in kindergarten. At that time, I didn’t understand its architectural value, but I remember that it felt spacious and the spiral design was very beautiful.
I truly hope that Yoyogi National Gymnasium will be nominated for the UNESCO World Heritage site and become known to a wider audience.
